Newsletters for the 2021 2022 academic year.

Dear Parents and Carers,

Before the pandemic affected schools in March 2020, the drop off and pick up system at the beginning and end of the school day was different to the current one in place.

During the last academic year, we used walkie talkies to radio ahead so the children were ready and then they came out to meet you.  This was quite an undertaking and although it worked quite well, it is not sustainable as things return to normal and staff are redeployed elsewhere in the school.

We are going to go back to how things were before the pandemic where we let all the children out onto the large playground.  This way the EYFS and Key Stage 1 staff can see who is waiting and let the children out when they see the parents, carers or other adult who is there to collect the children.

We will still insist on the current one way system being followed as this definitely helps avoid people going in and out of the same gate.  People who cannot manage to use the steps can follow the path round the rear of the school and exit via the lower gate near the turning circle.

We will start this system after the weekend on Monday 20th September.

Thank you.

Dear Parents and Carers.

Below are a few housekeeping reminders/notices that have cropped up over the last few days.

1. Could you please make sure that all your child’s clothing has their name in. If a jumper goes missing it is almost impossible to identify who it belongs to without a name. The children tend to say ‘It's a blue one.’ which doesn’t help much.
The same goes for the P.E kits and even trousers, especially where the younger children are concerned. We have had a few instances of children heading home in someone else’s clothes and we would like to avoid this if possible.

2. Mrs Kenyon would like donations of old pots and pans if you have any for the children in Reception and Year 1 to use in the outdoor area. They can be sent into school at any time next week.

3. At this time of year the children might have their P.E lesson outdoors as well as indoors. Could you please make sure they have both kits in school so they can take part fully in their lessons.

4. When we host the coffee morning next Wednesday, there will be a pre-loved uniform sale. The Friends of Hertford Vale will be running the stall so if you have any old uniform you no longer need, please bring it into school on Monday so it can be organised in time for the coffee morning on Wednesday.

Thank you.

Dear Parents and Carers.

Thank you to those people who have voiced their opinions on the questionnaire about the format of the parent/carer meetings later this term.  We will be closing the questionnaire tomorrow so if you are intending to respond, please do so today.

The link is here

If the link will not work from your phone it is on the ‘Newsletters’ area on the website dated the 14th of this month.

Thank you.

Dear Parents and Carers.

Next Wednesday will be the start of the Robbie Hawkes after school football club.  The club will run on Wednesdays after school and will be staffed by the Robbie Hawkes team.  The club will run from 3:20pm 'till 4:20pm.

The club is for children in years 1 through to 6 but places are limited to 32 children.  All the signing up and payment for the club will be done via the Robbie Hawkes website.  The specific link is here :

Any questions you may have about the training taking place and how to pay will be answered by the HawkesHealth team.  The flyer below has all the contact details you will need to sign up for the club.

Thank you.

Finally, after 18 months without any school sporting fixtures, it was wonderful to be able to attend the first cross country of the season. The weather was not quite so sporting, turning from cloudy to rain to torrential rain, however the show must go and we were very grateful to the six hardy children who were able to attend.

Two Year 3 boys made their debut representing the school and although one managed to lose his shoe four times due to the wet conditions, they both finished strongly.  It was lovely to see the teamwork they showed as one boy waited whilst his team mate collected his wandering shoe.  Our Year 4 boy representing the school was totally focused and determined throughout his race and it paid off with a fantastic 5th place finish.

Our Year 5 girl had to fight her way through lots of elbows and pushing but it did not stop her from grabbing a top 10 finish. At the same time, our Year 6 girl ran a very professional race, remaining steady at the start and then slowly picking off the runners for an incredible 3rd place finish.

The Year 6 boy on our team was up against over forty other Year 6 boys and he showed amazing resilience to fight his way to the front of the pack. He finished with an incredible sprint to get a top 10 finish!

All the children did an amazing job not only at running but also representing the school. We are extremely proud of them!

The next cross country fixture will be taking place on Thursday 23rd September at the 6th Form College for Years 2/3/4/5/6. Fingers crossed the sun will be shining this time, and we hope many children are able to join us.

To the Parents and Carers of the new starters in Reception.

Dear New Parents

Your child will be bringing home information and an activation letter for ParentPay, our online payment service.

Please activate your account as soon as possible.  You will then be able to pay online for trips, Breakfast Club, school uniform and lunch money (if your child is in years 3 to 6).  Children in Reception, Years 1 and 2 do not need to pay for their school lunches.

If you need any further information regarding ParentPay please call into the school office.

Thank you,

Parent and Carer Meetings

Dear Parents and Carers.

Traditionally we hold a parent/carer meeting in the first half of the term in school.  Last year we had to switch to phone calls instead for obvious reasons and from what we were told, this suited a number of our families.

We would like to invite you to fill in an online questionnaire to give us your thoughts on what format you would prefer this year.  Before we organise things for this term, we thought you might like to have your say about what you think might be the best way forward.  As always, we won’t be able to accommodate everyone's first choice but we will listen to your opinions and try to cater for the majority of families.

Please follow the link to have your say and we will get back to you with the results.

The link for the questionnaire has been sent out on the school app.  Some mobile phones do not allow you to follow the link from their screens so it is below just in case.

Thank you.

Key Stage 2 Cross Country - Tomorrow

Dear Parents and Carers.

The Key Stage 2 cross country is taking place tomorrow (Tuesday 14th September) at the Scarborough Sixth Form College after school.

The children taking part in Year 3 and Year 4 need to be at the college for 4pm.  Due to the traffic situation in Scarborough at the moment, we are allowing those children to be collected from school at 3pm to allow them get there in time.

The children in Year 5 and Year 6 who are taking part need to be at the college for 4:30pm and therefore can leave school at the usual time of 3:20pm.

Mrs Graves and Miss Higgs will be there to support the children and to be the point of contact for our families.

If you have any other questions, please contact the school office.

Thank you.

Dear Parents and Carers.

We just wanted to send a quick message to congratulate the children on an amazing first week back at school.  They have come in, settled extremely well and its lovely to see the classrooms full of busy, happy children.

We have all been amazed by how well the new Reception children have begun their time in school.  Their first ever whole school worship on Tuesday gave us an insight into the year to come.  Despite not having had any time in school before this week, they came in, sat down and behaved impeccably.  Well done to all our new Reception children!

We are looking forward to another busy week and to seeing the new classes settle into the routines of daily school life.  Thank you to all our parents, carers and other family members for making this first week back such an enjoyable one.

Have a good weekend,

The Hertford Vale team.

Dear Parents and Carers.

We’re ready for the children to come in tomorrow and are looking forward to hearing about what they have been doing over the summer break.

Some of the children will be coming to the breakfast club in the morning. This opens at 8:00am as usual and you do not need to pre book. However, if you are going to use the club each day, please let us know as there is a discount.

Tomorrow morning will be the first time the new Reception children will have been in school. To help them on their first morning we are allowing the parents and carers to walk the children into the cloakroom to hang their bags and coats up. The parents and carers can then leave via the classroom door onto the large playground and exit the school as normal via the steps.

P.E kits can be brought in tomorrow and can be left in school for the rest of the week. We encourage children to have a water bottle in school but please only fill the bottles with water.

School dinners can be chosen on the day and paid for via ParentPay. Parents and carers of new children need not worry about ParentPay just yet as the system only transfers the children over after the first day of school. We will be in touch at a later date with details for parents and carers of children who need to access ParentPay with details on how to access the service. Children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 receive a free meal and do not need to pay for school dinners. However, if you think you are entitled to free school meals, please get in touch as the school can access additional funding for eligible children, even those children in Key Stage 1.

We will see you tomorrow at 8:50am for the start of the new school year and we are looking forward to seeing the school full of children again.

The Hertford Vale team.

Dear Parents and Carers.

We are really looking forward to next week when all the children return to school.  As the new term begins, we have the opportunity to rebuild our school family and to reintroduce some of our traditions that made us a part of the local community.

There have been a few minor changes in school over the holidays with building work taking place around the school site.  As always with projects like these, things can overrun but we have been reassured that the final touches will hopefully be completed over the next few days.

The school day will start on Tuesday 7th September when the gates open at 8:50am.  We will still be operating the one way system for drop offs and pick ups as it worked well.  For people with pushchairs or those who cannot manage the steps, the path around the rear of the school is still available to exit the school grounds.

Masks will no longer be required on school grounds.  Should you prefer to wear a mask, this is entirely up to you and we will respect your decision.  There is now no need to make an appointment to visit the school office.  Having said that, to keep visitors to a minimum please look at the website or call school first to see if the information you need is available.

The school day will end at 3:20pm.   The gates will open at 3:20pm and for the first week or so we will be there at the end of the day to help with any questions.

Most of the information needed is on the school website but if you require any specific information please contact the school and we will get back to you as soon as possible.

We will be in touch early next week with any other information and to pass on any news if needed.

See you next week on the 7th.

The Hertford Vale team.
